Stress (Part VI)

Previous

Habit change is possible. It can be done but you have to be committed to make the change. It takes a lot of work and people who aren’t ready to make that commitment ofetn go back to the habit that’s causing them stress.

habits are habits, you can’t just throw them out of the window. You have to coax them downstairs, one step at a time.

Stay on any programmes for at least 3 to 4 months and it can become a habit. You can change behaviour. The minimum is 21 to 30 days.

It is very difficult to change a habit like losing weight until you learn to control stress in your life.

The additional stress of cutting back on food to an individual whose circuits are overloaded for one thing or has problems with the boss, marriage or children or something like that, it’s just going to be an additional source of stress. It would be very difficult for them to stay on a weight loss programme.

People should try and get control of their stress and move their stresses into strengths. Then take on additional stress of getting their weight back under control.

But it’s very difficult to do that until such time, that they feel that they’re beginning to get their life under control in some other way. Because control is the issue here.

We want people to do it for us and that’s not how it works. Other people cannot do it for you. It’s a matter of first of all making a decision that the issue of losing weight or stopping smoking or developing stress management skills is something that is important to us.

Imagine you only had 6 months to live. Divide your life up into 3 differnet categories, based on what is going on in your life right now.

Category 1, those things you would have to do.

Category 2, those things you would like to do.

Category 3, those things you wouldn’t do at all.

Eliminate everything that falls into Category 3. So that you have some quality time and quantity of time, to detach and do the things that are good for you, exercise or just standing on a hill and watching the sunset.

Don’t expect it’s going to happen overnight. You didn’t learn to get stress overnight. So take some time and realise that it is a lifetime study. Any journey begins with the first step.

Stress (Part V)

Previous

Take the opportunity that a traffic jam presents.

1. You could dictate letters whilst sitting there on a portable machine.

2. If you want you can have a hands free telephone there and conduct your business activity from there.

3. You can put in a CD of something you wanted to study or hear, or even possibly a book. Maybe on some important subject or a continuing education course.

But you can begin to see how you can use that time for something else you want to do, something that would help you to be productive, instead of the destructive.

We are self regulating organisms. We can choose what we want to think about. We don’t just think. We choose what we want to think about. We can select what we want to think about. So habit is an enemy of creative solutions.

So you can have the choice of making that a very positive, constructive, creative way of looking at it or one in which there is a lot of self destructive self talk.

‘I can’t do this.’ ‘I will never be able to do that.’ You know what that becomes, a self fulfilling prophecy. People who say, ‘I can’t do this.’ or ‘I will never do this.’ They don’t, but on the other hand, the very successful and fulfilled people are people that say, ‘I think I can do this.’ ‘I believe I can do this.’ or ‘I know I can do this.’

I know it sounds simplistic but you can defeat yourself or you can put yourself on the right path with your self talk.

If you tell yourself you can do something there is a good likelihood you can. If you tell yourself you can’t, you’ve set it up already so you’ll never get there.

Stress (Part IV)

A common problem in the industrialised world is the traffic jam. A lot of people see them as horrible, terrible and awful.

They are allowed to get into a gridlock and it just blocks them up and messes them up for the rest of the day.

One of the skills we can develop is a cognitive technique called ’Reframing.’ The reframing technique allows us to alter our perceptions of an event.

Perception is reality and that means of course the way you see the world has a lot to do with the chemistry of your body, has a lot to do with the kinds of prescriptions your brain is writing for your body.

If you see it as filled with what we call the F.U.D factor (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt). The n you are going to kick up on a lot of the high energy stress chemicals which will be turned inward, not outward.

On the other hand, if you see things as N.I.C.E. (New, Interesting, Challenges & Experiences) then you will have a different kind of chemistry.

It really doesn’t make any difference how many hours you work in a day. You can work 10 hours in a day, if you enjoy what you’re doing. But you could work only 3 hours a day. If you hate what you are doing. That perception will change your body chemistry.

Physical Techniques to deal with stress- Exercise

The increase in heart rate, the increase in your bodies metabolism for your exercise helps to burn up the chemicals, the hormones that are secreted via the stress response. So you get rid of these. You flush those out of your system.

Another thing that happens when you exercise your body it releases what is known as an endorphin. Endorphins are kind of mood elevators. It will give you a better prospective on things and it has also been known to reduce pain.

You want to pick primarily an aerobic or cardiovascular type of exercise. By cardiovascular I mean an activity that gets your body moving and it keeps it moving in a rhythmical manner for at least 20 to 30 minute time period.

An exercise like walking, cycling, jogging, running, swimming, cross country skiing etc. Anything that keeps you moving for a sustained period of time.

Cognitive Techniques

Now we live in a more sophisticated society. We can’t just simply run away from some threat. We have to develop practical skills. We have to develop cognitive skills.

Frequently when we become stressed we lose perspective on the options that we have and we see all or none, black or white. This job is so horrible I need to quit, that’s the only solution. This relationship, this marriage is so bad – divorce.

So we see things as all or nothing, black or white, rather than realising we have many options that we need to investigate.

Stress (Part II)

STRESS (PART II)

The heart rate increases, respiration rate increases, blood pressure increases, the entire endocrinology system, hormones, epinephrine (US name for adrenalin), nor epinephrine (US name for noradrenalin), adrenalin hormones. Cholesterol is a steroid hormone, increased production of all steroid hormones.

So physiologically your entire body is turned on and stimulated.

If we experience stress over a long period of time it compromises all the efficiency with which our systems work.

If you sustain this over a long period of time you can develop ’Burn Up’

What this means is your totally overwhelmed and exhausted. You will either have some kind of illness, such as cancer or a stroke or some other illness.

You may have, what the lay person calls a nervous breakdown.

You may turn to self medicating types of things, such as drugs or alcohol, in an effort to get some relief.

Along with that your blood clots much easier and that was designed to protect us in case we got bitten or cut maybe, some 1300 generations ago.

But now those little platelets that cause clotting in the body, can’t tell the difference between a plaque of cholesterol which is on the inside of your artery or whether that artery is cut, because it had been bitten by a sabre tooth tiger or something like that.

So where does the clot form ? It forms on the inside and where do the surges of blood go? They literally pummel the inner lining of that artery like a pile driver, hitting it 30 or 40 times a day.

Then there is the big one that we always talk about and the number 1 killer is coronary heart disease, a heart attack. Of that group of people about half of them die a sudden death. The first symptom of that heart attack is death, not pain but just sudden death, your gone.

Stress (Part I)

We weren’t born with stress. We learned it and made it a habit.

To manage stress creatively we have to learn new habits.

We are really living in the bodies of our ancestors, in a world they never dreamt would exist. There has been about 1600 generations of us human beings and 1200 of those we were living in caves. We’ve only been out of the caves 300 to 400 generations. That’s not very long.

In ancient times, man, when he was faced by stress, it was primarily of a physical origin. To respond to that stress he had to respond in a physical nature. That’s where you get what’s commonly known as the ’Fight or Flight’ response to stress.

Today we don’t fight sabre tooth tigers. Today we are fighting many things including technology and industry.

Stress is personal and it’s individual. In time, constant, repetitive daily unresolved stress will take it’s toll.

The alarm reaction, or ‘Fight or Flight’ reaction. produces a lot of adrenalin like substances that cause the heart to beat fast, blood pressure to rise, the mouth goes dry, heart starts to pound. You are ready for ‘Fight or Flight.’

You get into your car and it doesn’t work. You take a road to work where the lights and the traffic are horrendous. It irritates you and you become restless. You intensify your anger inside.

You get to work and the boss is immediately on your case. “You are late again.” or something that just makes you burn. It could be something little, it could be something big.

Retiring Police Officers. Or A Career Change ?

I was a police officer for just under 33 years. I worked mainly in London, in the UK, throughout that time. I enjoyed my time in the police service, but I knew when it was time to retire. So I became one of those retiring police officers. It went so fast.

In August 2006, I found this fantastic business within the personal development industry. It is in over 150 countries around the world.

Personal development had always been one of my passions, on and off, since about 1979. I had studied Anthony Robbins, Jim Rohn, and read numerous books on the subject.

Now I am an entrepreneur in the personal development industry. I work for myself, come and go as I please and absolutely love it.

Towards the end of my police service I was fed up doing long hours and sometimes it was stressful. The bureaucracy and red tape wore me down.

My health has improved tremendously since I retired. Stress is a thing of the past. Pro-activity in my life, is now a vital key.

So what is your position in the police service, are you retired, contemplating retirement or  just fancy doing something different?

Everyone is different, some police officers work for the full term of years and some go on to other careers.

Remember as retiring police officers you have to stay active once you have retired, so this may be for you. This business is exciting and challenging for the right person or couple.

What about you and your situation. Are you looking for a different career path? Is a complete change of direction something you are thinking of? This may be what you are looking for.

So when I had the opportunity to actually start a business, one  which developed people and allowed people to make great money. I was obviously extremely interested.

So if you feel that your life needs a spring clean. Then maybe we should have a chat. This opportunity is for anybody but I would especially like to assist police officers, former police officers and their families to achieve success with this business.

So who am I looking for? I am looking for ambitious people who are self starters. I choose to work with those people who have great energy and drive. People who are coachable and trainable.

We have a proven business model and a simple system which is very successful and has been since 2001. There would be no need to reinvent the wheel at all. The training is excellent, ongoing and I look to mentor the right people.

So the first step would be to leave your details on the website and then I would contact you within 24 hours for a chat. We can then have a conversation where I would establish whether this business is a match for both of us or not. Then I would get you the information which is totally free.

Whatever you decide in life my best regards go to you and all retiring police officers, former police officers and those seeking new endeavours.

I wish you well for the future.

Corporate Alternative: What Is The Answer?

Do you dread the thought of Monday morning? You are not alone here.

I suspect that if the truth were known you would prefer to work for yourself rather than work in a cubicle at corporate.

If you work in a corporate and you really enjoy your job, that is great.

But if hated corporate life then what would you do? Would you start your own business, which can be a big gamble. Not only with your present job but also maybe your finances. Would you just change jobs?

Maybe you are fed up with the long commute every day. Maybe you are fed up with the lack of promotion and or small salary increases.

It could be that you have been promoted (this is what they call it) and your money has actually reduced. Also you may have been downsized, outsourced or have been made redundant.

Stress is a big problem within the corporate structure. It could be that your workload is to big or that you hate your boss.

We tend to get caught in that rut. If you stay in that rut long enough you will find it harder to move yourself.

Are you working the 40 year rut plan. Because you know that a rut is a grave with the ends removed.

Some people may revert to drugs or alcohol because tremendous stress because of their corporate surroundings and the pressures that seem unrelenting.

Think about these statements:-

1. I work 3 to 4 hours a day and I am not missing out on life anymore. I work my own hours on the beach or wherever I choose. Also I work in casual clothes, not a suit.

2. I steer my own course and make my own decisions.

3. I choose what I do. I choose who it is with and I choose when.

4. I have time and money  freedom and get I paid what I am worth. There is no upper limit to what I can earn.

5. I am in the process of building my wealth portfolio.

6. I take full responsibility for my life and do not rely on anyone else.

7. I used to be  burnt out and but now I have inner peace and I am contented.

8. I can actually choose who i spend my time with instead of the office gossips.

9. I have developed a genuine desire to empower myself.

10. I escaped the rat race.

Do these statements resonate with you. If they do then maybe we need to talk.

So where do you go from here? Well maybe NOW you may consider an alternative.

You know you already have what it takes-so fill out the web form below for more information. It’s absolutely free…and it could be the first step toward trampling out your corporate burnout forever.

Start a franchise. What should you be looking for?

What you will  require when looking to start a franchise ?

The first thing to look for is the type of business that you have more than merely an interest in, more like a passion.  My passion had always been in personal development.  So when I came across my franchise alternative  the choice was very easy to make. It was a no brainer for me

Once you know the area that you want to start a franchise or franchise alternative in . You will want  to spend adequate time researching the opportunity. Do not make snap decisions. Devour all of the information that you are given and ask many questions. Do your due diligence/research. This is what I did because I had to be sure that I was investing my time into the right opportunity for me.

You then have to take a look at the financial side of things. How much does this particular franchise cost to start up and what are the ongoing costs.

Some franchises are out of the reach of most people because they require between 100,000 and a million to just get started. You really should be looking for a great franchisethat costs between 2,500 to 30,000, all in.

Then ask yourself what are the ongoing costs. You should be looking at anywhere between 250 and a 1000 a month. If it costs anymore than that you will start worrying from day 1, and it may not change.

If you find a great franchise or franchise alternative which doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to start and the ongoing cost are reasonable, then this will put that particular franchise within the reach of everyone. Also you wouldn’t  have to risk everything, if it all goes wrong or you lose interest.

Also you want a business that you get out of at any time and not be penalised by being locked into a particular time period , with ongoing advertising costs and having to pay the parent company a percentage of your profits. Personally I like to keep all of the profits.

Ongoing expenses are one of the problems with large franchises, so you will want to fully capitalise your business for at least 6 months to a year.

Now some franchises can take 3 or 4 years before you start seeing a good profit. I would look for one that could at least show you a good and healthy return within 3 to 6 months.

But remember you are in business for yourself so make sure that ongoing support and training is provided.

There are several other important things to take into consideration. Do you go for the traditional bricks and mortar type of franchise or do you choose a franchise or a  where you can work from home. This negates the issue of premises, rates etc.

Ask yourself is it portable. Can I take this and use it anywhere around the world. This really appealed to me as I can work anywhere with a laptop and a telephone.

Lastly you want to find a good mentor who can help you through the early stages of your business and who is prepared to work with you over a long period of time. Like a lot of people I needed help on an ongoing basis. Not someone to who did it for me but someone who could guide me in the right direction.

Whatever you choose to do in life I wish you all the success that you are willing to work towards. Remember no-one is going to give it to you on a silver platter.
